A Little Update from Here

Facebook shared a memory with me today from this website, and it reminded me that I hadn’t updated this site or the blog for many months.

The last post was in October 2025, when I wrote about leaving CMA and wondering what might come next. At the time, I think I was standing in that familiar space between endings and beginnings, not quite sure what would take shape.

Since then, I have really enjoyed writing for the new blog I started several months ago, which has surprised me and pleased me a lot. What began as a vague idea has become a real and steady place of reflection. I’ve been writing about creativity, aging, relationships, change, and all the strange and beautiful spaces in between.

I also attended the CMA2 conference in Albuquerque, and it was wonderful to

see so many familiar faces again, people I’ve known for years, and people I’ve only known online. There were terrific speakers, a great community art project, and that particular kind of energy that comes from being with others who love this art form. There was so much excitement in the room. So much evidence that this community, in all its many forms, is still very much alive.

After stepping away from leadership, it was meaningful to simply be there. To see people connecting, learning, laughing, showing their work, asking questions, and carrying the community forward in their own ways. That felt good.

This past year, Max and I have also been exploring more of our area, from Albuquerque to Taos, and into beautiful parts of Colorado. And now we’re both getting ready to do some traveling.

In June, I’ll be traveling to Belgium for a workshop with Mireille Swinnen, which feels both exciting and a little unreal. When Solly and I offered CMA Summits in Ashland, Oregon, and later in Eugene, Mireille was one of the instructors I always enjoyed having come to teach. Now I get to learn with her in Belgium.

After the workshop, my son Zac will meet me in Brussels, I’m really looking

forward to that time together. Max, in the meantime, will be fly fishing in beautiful places in Colorado, so we will both be off having our own adventures.

It isn’t always easy to wait for inspiration, purpose, creativity, or the next thing to show up. The space between what has ended and what has not yet arrived can be uncomfortable, and I have certainly had my share of ups and downs during these past many months.

But I am grateful.

Grateful for writing. Grateful for mosaics. Grateful for the people and places that continue to call me forward. Grateful for Max, who has been steady and gracious through a season of change. And I’m grateful for the bright future we still have in these years to come.
